The Explorers Club - New York
Founded in New York City in 1904, The Explorers Club promotes the scientific exploration of land, sea, air, and space by supporting research and education in the physical, natural and biological sciences. The Club’s members have been responsible for an illustrious series of famous firsts: First to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, first to the surface of the moon.
On 23 May 2020 I was very excited to be accepted into The Explorers Club, sponsored by the Australian & New Zealand Chapter
TEDx Hillbrook
After securing a TEDx License in May 2020, and weathering Covid delays, a year later on 8 May 2021, TEDx Hillbrook Anglican School came to life in front of a sold-out audience. I was inspired to bring a professional TEDx event to our community and along the way I learned a great deal about logistics, production, marketing, ticket sales, TEDx guidelines, finding great speakers, and 100 other things that had to be solved. With the help of a small committee of students, we pulled together and were totally thrilled when the day finally arrived. It was one of the most exciting and frightening experiences in my life.
I was able to curate an incredible group of truly inspiring speakers, and the event was a genuine success. I am so extremely grateful for the selfless support I received from the speakers, the school, the band, the committee, the audio-visual crew, and volunteer ushers and others. I am especially pleased that each of the speakers are now on the world stage with their talks available on the TEDx YouTube channel, amassing nearly 10,800 views in the first week.
