My first day at Columbia University
Hey, I'm Harry,
I'm in my 4th and final year at Columbia University as a Physics major with a minor concentration in Mathematics. Academically, I have taken the most rigorous curriculum available for Physics students.
After graduation I intend to pursue a Doctorate in Physics with a strong focus on Research.
The last 2 years I have undertaken research with the Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory led by Prof. Charles 'Chuck' Hailey. My research has led to the first ever observation of Compact Cloud Clumps on the interaction site of a molecular cloud and supernova remnant. The summer of 2025 I spent at the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard working on another ongoing research project for Rafael Martínez-Galarza PhD, Deputy Director of AstroAI. The CfA is an inspiring institution filled with the most amazing scientists from around the world.
I have absolutely loved doing this research and joining a collegiate group of other scientists immersed in physics. I've especially enjoyed participating in conferences and workshops at the University of MA in Lowell, and CfA at Harvard this year.
Originally from the mountainous outskirts of Brisbane Australia, I am a keen rock climber, hiker and scuba diver. I was thrilled to be accepted into the New York Explorers Club when I was 16 and have been on an incredible expedition researching great white sharks in the Great Australian Bight. The New York headquarters is an incredible living museum of 120 years of exploration and scientific discovery.
Living in New York and studying at Columbia is literally a dream come true and I can't wait for the next phase in my journey to full time physics research.
